The ENCS team is pleased to bring to you attention last year’s highlight topics, including new publications!
Connecting OT to external systems
As a grid operator’s OT systems become more digitalized, they become increasingly connected to external systems and networks such as IT systems, the Internet, and the systems of other grid operators. As part of our 2025 Architecture program, we worked with our members to identify the threats linked to these connections and define the best practice architecture to mitigate these threats. The results are presented in the whitepaper below:
OT threat landscape
In an earlier webinar, we looked into advanced persistent threats (APTs) that have targeted OT systems and we tried to find patterns in the attacks and identify a minimum set of security measures that can help grid operators effectively defend against many APTs. As many grid operators are using the MITRE ATT&CK ICS framework in their processes and tools, we used this framework and MITRE Navigator in this process.
These approach and results of this exercise are reflected in the whitepaper below:
Supply chain security
Supply chain security has been an important focus of our 2025 policy program. Due to the increasing number and sophistication of attacks, grid operators are now working to strengthen their supply risk management. Following the progress of relevant regulations and building on insights shared by ENCS members, this resulted in two webinars and a whitepaper on supply chain security. We will continue our work on that in 2026, and the insights will be shared during the roundtables. Below you can see the resulting whitepaper and the webinars we hosted on this topic:
